Isn't having Israel under seige good for the US, geo-politically speaking?

1. To supply weapons when US 'leaders' can't (such as arming the 'Contras' when Congress said no Reagan and the Boland Amendment)?

2. To provide an arena (the occupied territories, gaza )in which counter-insurgency techniques can be tested?

3. To expand the myth that Arabs are terrorists?

4. To legitimize force as the only thing Arabs understand?

5. To de-legitimize those who would dare to raise their heads to the West?

6. To de-legitimize the concept of 'human rights'?

7. Others?

The US has vetoed every Resolution in the UN proposing a peaceful settlement to the Israeli-Palestinian situation (over 40, at last count). There must be a reason besides AIPAC, or Jewish control or some such nonsense.|||Wow, some of these answers are downright disturbing.

Let's see, someone comes into my country where I and my ancestors have been farming for generations and take over my country and tell me that I don't exist anymore as a citizen of that state. I'm forced with other members of my family to live in a refugee camp and am not allowed to live anywhere else unless I have money to leave the country and go live somewhere else. I could understand where the terrorism would come in, I would probably do the same if that happened in my state.

Well, I wouldn't say it was good for the US because the Average Joe probably couldn't find Israel on the map, but it sure is good for the multinational corporations, geo-politically speaking.|||War is good business you know. Israel is the only war zone country in the world. Look how much money went to the Iraq war.|||When I got to "expand the myth that Arabs are terrorists", I pretty much knew you needed help.|||Fraser T asked:

"Isn't having Israel under seige good for the US, geo-politically speaking? "

..........

Your question is based on a false-assumption. Israel is not under siege.

The Palestinians in the illegally-occupied(by Israel) territories of the West Bank and Gaza, along with the Palestinian-Israelis inside of Israel, living a 2nd class apartheid life are "under siege" by Israel and the American made and paid arms used against them.

It is not "good for the US, geo-politically speaking" because Israel wags the tail of America. And America, once liked and admired by middle-easterners, is now seen for what it is..... a shill for Israel.|||it is all a matter of interpretation. there is no doubt that terrorism was first practiced by the Zionist, it is all recorded and a historical fact. war always benefits the rich man and the capitalist and harm to the labors all over the world. the more instability in Middle East and therefore less unity in the region, it is better for the corporations to control the oil and sell weapons to the gulf countries. they can fish better by muddying the waters. that is why Israel was established and it's purpose. as far as i am concerned people in Israel are also a victim the Imperialist plot and greed!|||I do not want to sound like an Anti-Russian so I won't answer your question..........|||The "myth" that arabs are terrorists? Compare Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Pakistan, and Lebanon to France, Germany, Sweden, UK, Italy, Canada, India, Russia, China, and the United States.

Which of these groups would you expect 99% of all terrorists to come from? And in the other nations, which ethnic group is still responsible for the same terrorism?

Hint: Arabs. That is not to say all Arabs are terrorists, but it's true that most terrorists are Arab.

It's not a myth that the entire region is a breeding ground for suicide bombers, militant extremists, religious and ethnic hatred. If you're a non-Arab in an Arab nation, your life is on the line every day.

If you're an Arab in a non-Arab nation, you're fine. Aside from a heightened awareness of military-aged Arab men, Arabs live in the lap of luxury in non-Arab countries, and are treated as fairly as anyone else. Now put yourself in an Arab nation, and see how fairly you're treated when they kidnap you and decapitate you on film while chanting to Allah. I've seen the video tape of Nick Berg's killing, and it was done by militant terrorists, not the occasional psychopath from a western nation. Here, such psychopathic behavior is the exception, not the norm.

There, suicide bombings, car bombings, roadside bombings, firing rockets into crowded marketplaces, institutionalized hatred, state-sponsored and religion-sponsored ethnic cleansing are all commonplace, and these things happen every day.
